A winner never quits and a quitter never wins, has been the philosophy of Champ Oil Company, Inc. for the past two decades. During this time it is estimated over 80% of the Oil and Gas Operators in the United States have gone out of business while Champ Oil Company, Inc. has thrived.
Champ Oil Company, Inc. was founded by Wayne Farris in 1981 and was incorporated as a Mississippi Corporation, January 1984. Champ Oil Company, Inc., which is solely owned and operated by Wayne L Farris, moved its corporate headquarters to Norman, Oklahoma in 1985 to better feel the heartbeat of the oil business and for a more practical business operation.
After carefully reviewing numerous domestic prospects requiring shallow, low cost, highly prolific natural gas products, Mr. Farris solicited the help of a long time friend, Scott Gilbert, Geologist and President of the Tennessee Oil and Gas Association, to assist with acquiring excellent lease prospects and strong developmental planning along the Southern rim of the Appalachian Basin in Southeastern Kentucky. Champ secured several oil and gas leases along the Cumberland River in Whitley County, Kentucky. Six wells were drilled in 1985, encountering five highly productive natural gas wells. Recognizing the potential of this area, additional leases were secured and developed. To date, Champ has drilled over 170 wells.
Champ credits its success rate to the fact that its development is in a highly prolific area for natural gas and carefully selected well locations based on ongoing geological prospecting with a good working knowledge of the area. Although Champs main objective is natural gas this area has potential for substantial oil production.
Champs natural gas supply was initially transported to one market through the Redbird Gas System, which proved to be outdated and unreliable. Mr. Farris, realizing the importance of having an efficient, independent pipeline and gathering system to market his gas, formed the Herbert White Gas Co., which is wholly owned by Mr. Farris and other working interest owners in Champs wells/leases in this area.
To date, Herbert White Gas Co. Inc. has installed over 75 miles of gas pipeline to service the wells in this area. The gathering system has branched out to areas of wilderness that have never been accessible, allowing Champ to take full advantage of the virgin resources in this highly productive area.
The pipeline has two outlets, both with multiple market capabilities. A third outlet is being planned as Champ continues its exploration and development. Reaching multiple gas markets gives us a greater ability to negotiate for premium gas prices.
Champs operational area currently involves over a 250 square mile area including Whitley and McCreary Counties in Kentucky and Scott and Campbell Counties in Tennessee, Several thousand acres are now in Champs lease inventory for future development. Known gas reserves, combined with Champs rate of drilling success and anticipated rising gas prices, make Champs future look especially bright. Champ Oil Company, Inc., has been built on a solid foundation and is looking forward to many more years of future success. Champs business principles are based on open-mindedness, willingness, and honesty. You can put your trust in Champ Oil Company, Inc. to be a good reliable operation you can always count on.
